Ability of extracellular volume imaging to serially measure infarct size compared to LGE within six months after acute myocardial infarction

چکیده
Background T1 mapping and extracellular volume (ECV) imaging are promising tools to quantify increased extracellular distribution volume of contrast media after myocardial damage. We evaluated the ability of ECV imaging to measure infarct size compared to late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Additionally, the amount of cellular damage was serially measured by ECV imaging.

Myocardial Extracellular Volume Estimation by CMR Predicts Functional Recovery Following Acute MI
OBJECTIVES In the setting of reperfused acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the authors sought to compare prediction of contractile recovery by infarct extracellular volume (ECV), as measured by T1-mapping cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), with late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) transmural extent. BACKGROUND The transmural extent of myocardial infarction as assessed by LGE CMR is a strong predi...
متن کاملOverestimation of infarct size following acute myocardial infarction is related to extent of myocardial edema
Background Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) is an accurate and reproducible method to delineate nonviable myocardium following myocardial infarction (MI). However, in the early stages following acute MI, LGE has been shown to overestimate the size of the infarct zone by up to 30%. The causes for this are unclear, and may be related to tissue remodelling, intracellular contrast uptake, or expan...
متن کاملTime elapsed after contrast injection is crucial to determine infarct transmurality and myocardial functional recovery after an acute myocardial infarction
BACKGROUND In acute myocardial infarction (MI), late Gadolinium enhancement (LGE) has been proposed to include the infarcted myocardium and area at risk. However, little information is available on the optimal timing after contrast injection to differentiate these 2 areas. Our aim was to determine in acute and chronic MI whether imaging time after contrast injection influences the LGE size that...
متن کاملAcute Infarct Extracellular Volume Mapping to Quantify Myocardial Area at Risk and Chronic Infarct Size on Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
BACKGROUND Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging overestimates acute infarct size. The main aim of this study was to investigate whether acute extracellular volume (ECV) maps can reliably quantify myocardial area at risk (AAR) and final infarct size (IS). METHODS AND RESULTS Fifty patients underwent cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging acutely (24-72 hours) and at convalescence (3 mo...
متن کاملExtra-cellular expansion in the normal, non-infarcted myocardium is associated with worsening of regional myocardial function after acute myocardial infarction
BACKGROUND Expansion of the myocardial extracellular volume (ECV) is a surrogate measure of focal/diffuse fibrosis and is an independent marker of prognosis in chronic heart disease. Changes in ECV may also occur after myocardial infarction, acutely because of oedema and in convalescence as part of ventricular remodelling. The objective of this study was to investigate changes in the pattern of...
